What is an "Auxiliary Communications Service?"
At its core, an "Auxiliary Communications Service" refers to a backup communication system, typically utilizing amateur radio technology, designed to provide reliable communication during emergencies or when primary networks are unavailable, often managed by a dedicated group of licensed radio operators who volunteer their expertise and equipment to support critical communication needs in times of crisis.
What does FCACS do?
- Provide services/support when mobilized by the Director of the Fremont County Emergency Management Agency.
- Conducts research and development of auxiliary communications technology.
- Provides and conducts training for ham radio and other forms of communications.
- Promotes ham/amateur radio to the community at large.
When an emergency situation occurs, FCACS can provide staffing for the "AUXC" (Auxiliary Communications) role under the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
